A chat with our colleague Gustian, Manager Debt Advisory & Treasury

Gustian van der Linde Orchard Finance

Orchard Finance is growing rapidly. In recent months we have welcomed many new colleagues. One of those new colleagues is Gustian van der Linde. Although Gustian is actually an old acquaintance of Orchard Finance! It’s great to welcome Gustian back to the team. Are you curious about Gustian’s story and what it is like to work as Manager Debt Advisory & Treasury at Orchard Finance? Read on!

Who are you and can you tell something about your background?

After my studies in Groningen, I joined Orchard as a consultant in 2015 after an internship. I learned a lot at Orchard in a short time and gained experience in Debt Advisory and Treasury. After having enjoyed working at Orchard for over five years, I decided three years ago to take a break, namely as an M&A consultant at another firm. In that role, I supervised the buying and selling of companies. After two instructive years, I returned to Orchard last September to get back into full swing with Debt Advisory and Treasury projects.

By now, you have fully settled back in! How did you experience getting back to work at Orchard Finance?

I got off to a flying start after my return. From day one I was able to start working on different projects right away. It was very nice to see all the familiar faces again, but also to meet all the new colleagues. There have certainly been developments at the time I have been away, but the pleasant Orchard culture is still the same.

What work do you get the most satisfaction from?

The most enjoyable phase of every project is when I get to immerse myself in the challenges of a new client. I really enjoy understanding the client’s business model and strategy: what products do they sell? What is going on in the industry? How profitable are they? And more questions like that. Often you discover special companies you have never heard of, yet they make products you use or see every day.

What has been your most special holiday destination and why?

Surely my most special destination has been India. After my studies, I traveled through this country with my girlfriend for several weeks. This was my first trip outside of Europe and it turned out to be quite a challenge! After a few days of acclimatization, you can really enjoy the smells, colors, people, hospitality and food. A fantastic experience!

What does your ideal day off look like?

I experience my ideal day every year on winter sports, which is also my favorite holiday of the year. Getting up early to hit some nice slopes, having lunch in the sun, being in the mountains all day and settling down for a beer at the end of the day. Then going to bed early, only to repeat this pattern again the next day, wonderful!
